

May 25, 2024 – New York, NY – Justin M. Jacobson recently spoke and acted as a moderator for the Esports Trade Association‘s panel exploring “Building the Future: The Evolving Landscape of Collegiate Esports” as part of ESTA’s annual conference, Esports Next 2025, with panelists Jacob VanRyn (Commissioner/CEO of NECC Esports), Tom Screech (Instructor, Esports Management at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology), and Wil Fisackerly, Ph.D (Lecturer of Sports Business at University of Oklahoma). The panel explored the current state and future trajectory of esports in higher education including at the collegiate level. The discussion continued by exploring the establishment of competitive programs on colleges to the integration of esports and video games into academic curricula, including examining some practical insights for building sustainable esports initiatives and for preparing students for careers in the gaming industry. It concluded by looking at a variety of best practices, challenges, and opportunities in this rapidly evolving collegiate esports space.
