

July 31, 2023 – New York, NY – On July 30, 2024, Justin M. Jacobson hosted a CLE lecture titled “Select “Hot” Topics in Entertainment Law” as part of the “Entertainment Law 101 (2024 Edition)” multi-panel CLE presented by the Federal Bar Association and myLawCLE. The CLE looked at three select “hot” topics trending in the media and entertainment legal space including an exploration of Generative AI and copyright law and its impact on the entertainment and creative field. The session addressed the state and federal legislation as well as pending litigation brought by entertainment industry advocacy groups focused on Generative AI and “deepfakes” as it relates to an entertainer’s right of publicity in the individual’s “name, image, and likeness.” The session also looked at esports law and professional video game law such as the legal issues related to the monetization of “user-generated content” (UGC) in video games such has Unreal Editor For Fortnite (UEFN) and Roblox in addition to touching on some of the pending litigation related to child labor laws. The CLE finished by looking at social media legal disclosures required by entertainers, influencers, and celebrities including those for social media posts, live streams, and audio content.
